Dieci Hercules 210.10 Telehandler Aiding Renovation Of Ritom Hydroelectric Plant

Renovating Switzerland’s Ritom hydroelectric plant in Ticino is no small task. Built in 1917, the plant powers the electrified Gotthard railway line, which runs through the Alps from northern to southern Switzerland. The complex overhaul project includes relocating the plant’s pressurised pipeline, formerly routed overland, to the inside of the mountain. When complete, the updated plant will benefit the rail line as well as the whole community of Ticino.

The project requires robust, multipurpose equipment, and Dieci says this is why Swiss Federal Railway and utility company Azienda Elettrica Ticinese turned to the Dieci Hercules 210.10 to help build the underground pressurised pipeline. The telehandler will load hundreds of tonnes of 12-metre (39-foot)-long pipes onto lorries for transport from the job base in Piotta to Lake Ritom. Once at the site, the pipes will be lowered into a shaft using an 18-tonne (19.8-U.S.-ton) winch.

Strong Multitasker

Hercules telehandlers are Dieci’s strongest vehicles and are frequently used on large construction sites and at mines, airports, and shipyards. The Hercules 210.10 has a lifting capacity of 21 t (23 U.S. t) and a maximum reach height of 10 m (33 ft). The telehandler is equipped with Enhanced Soft Motion for adjusting boom movement, Lateral Tilt Corrector for safe levelling on any terrain, and intelligent controls that can adapt to connected equipment.

The Hercules 210.10 is a multitasker that can perform the duties of a forklift truck and an aerial platform; its winch, jibs, and hooks can handle loads that are heavy and bulky. The telehandler’s 10-m reach and extendable front basket and trilateral baskets give it a load capacity of as much as 1,000 kilograms (2.205 pounds) and a width of 4 m (13 ft). The 210.10 can also be fitted with loaders, grippers, material baskets, mixing buckets, concrete ladles, sweepers, salt spreaders, and snowplough blades for a diverse array of jobs.
