Construction equipment manufacturer JCB has announced the U.S. and Canadian availability of its most compact backhoe loader, the 1CXT. The miniature track loader measures just 12 feet (3.66 meters) long and 6 feet (1.83 meters) wide and weighs less than 9,600 pounds (4,354 kilograms), and it can be towed without a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) in most locales. Moreover, the 1CXT’s engine requires no exhaust aftertreatment, such as a DPF (diesel particulate filter) or DEF (diesel exhaust fluid).

“While backhoes are experiencing a surge in demand overall, at JCB the strongest increases have been in our compact and specialized backhoe loader products as job sites trend smaller,” says JCB North America Backhoe Loader Product Manager, Diego Butzke. “The early interest in the 1CXT by landscapers, rental operations, utility companies, and construction contractors has exceeded our expectations. The combination of performance, maneuverability and ‘tow-ability’ in a compact machine that’s packed with features has really excited the market.”

    A Mighty Mite

The 1CXT’s parallel-lift loader has a 1,466-pound (665-kilogram) maximum capacity. With an optional extending dipper, the machine has a maximum reach of 12 feet, 10 inches (3.91 meters) and a maximum dig depth of 10 feet, 1 inch (3.07 meters). Its bucket breakout force ranges up to 5,180 pounds-force (23.04 kilonewtons).

The little JCB employs a 49-horsepower (36.5-kilowatt) Perkins engine with 122 pounds-foot (165 newton meters) of torque. An 11.8-gallon (45-liter) fuel tank resides on the side of the unit. Its 24.6-gallons per minute (100-liters per minute) auxiliary circuit can power patch planers, trenchers, and other high-flow attachments, JCB says.

    1CXT Features

JCB says that the new 1CXT is the only tracked backhoe loader in North America. The company touts its stability and traction on soft ground, along with its ability to push and climb. It also has stabilizers for demanding jobs.

The 1CXT has a side door and a swiveling seat. Its cab has an AC and a heater. There’s seat-mounted joystick control over both the loader and excavator, and you can elect to use “either classic backhoe or mini excavator control patterns,” and switch between them on the fly, JCB says.

The machine’s universal quick hitch is compatible with powered skid-steer attachments, and there’s an option to add an auxiliary circuit to it for handheld tools. LiveLink Lite telematics keeps the 1CXT wirelessly connected.
