When space is limited, but you need to dig, trench, or back-fill in a capable way, you can rely on nimble, powerful loader backhoes from Caterpillar. The new Cat 440 and 450 center pivot models offer greater backhoe lifting capability, higher breakout force ratings, better operator comfort, and redesigned single-tilt loader arms.

Cat says the all-new 440 offers 25% better lifting capacity than its 430F2 model, while the new 450 bests the 450F’s lifting capability by 15% and comes with a newly designed cab.

    More Efficient Operation

The 440 and 450 are both powered by Cat’s C4.4 ACERT motor. Using a SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system that requires no user maintenance, the engine complies with Tier 4 Final emissions standards.

For easier driving on roads, there’s a sixth gear in the standard Autoshift transmission. On grades, a Lock Up Torque converter option assists torque and efficiency. Also, the parking brake is simpler to use thanks to new SAHR (spring-applied hydraulically released) brakes.

For operator comfort, and to reduce fatigue, Cat totally redesigned the operator station and related hydraulics infrastructure. The controls are now mounted on the seat and move with the operator. There’s more legroom for backhoe operation and a more comfortable seating angle when clearing ditches or truck loading. Also, the upgraded digital display center is simpler to understand and use.

    Better Load Control

Cat equips the 440 and 450 with new single-tilt loader arms that make it easier to control bucket and pallet loads through sensor-enabled parallel arm movement. It’s also simple to set kickout positions for repeatable return-to-dig limits and truck loading arm positions.

The optional Cat Integrated Tool Carrier (IT) system provides quick attachment changes for both the backhoe and loader arms. Speaking of attachments, the hydraulic flow to powered tools is adjustable.

Finally, the 440 and 450 come standard with Cat’s Product Link and VisionLink systems to send maintenance and operational data back to your office.
